Why recovery needs more than the loss
A 50% drawdown needs a 100% gain to recover — not 50% — because the recovery percentage is calculated on the smaller, post-loss balance. This asymmetry is why avoiding large drawdowns matters more than chasing large gains.

Drawdown % = (Peak − Trough) ÷ Peak × 100
Recovery Needed % = (Peak − Trough) ÷ Trough × 100
